The technical name for this is edema, and it is related more to lymph issues and 'water retention'. But since we in the community realize all these things are interlaced together, then yes it is related to the general insufficiency on the systems to work in harmony. I was given Furosemide, which is a loop diuretic used to treat fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disorders
It works by acting on the kidneys to increase the flow of urine. I took it for years. Once I lost a lot of my excess weight, the problem started sorting itself out, thank God! As always, talk with your regular doctors to decide what is best for you. Nothing should be taken without some idea of the effect on your established treatment plan.

Swelling can indeed be a sign that pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is progressing or getting worse. Here are some key points to consider:

- Edema (Swelling): This is a common symptom as PAH worsens.
- Forms of Swelling: It can appear as fluid buildup in the abdomen (ascites), puffy skin, shiny or stretched skin, or skin that pits when pressed.
- Serious Implications: Swelling may signal heart failure, as the heart struggles to pump blood effectively, leading to fluid buildup.
- Monitoring: It's crucial to monitor swelling and report any sudden weight gain or worsening symptoms to your doctor.

Always keep an eye on your symptoms and consult your healthcare provider for proper management.
