Hi All, I Have A Question About Travel & Travel Insurance With PHTN!

A myPHteam Member asked a question 💭

Husband and I have a planned trip to Costa Rica in Feb. with a tour group. We knew we had to purchase travel insurance but have waited to do so. Having never purchased trip insurance before, we now found out we're too late for the "cancel for any reason" coverage. And I'm reading I may need "pre-existing coverage" insurance if anything happens to me while in CR (that it may not be covered if related to PHTN). Of you all who travel with trip insurance, how do you handle travel insurance; what… read more

I would suggest Goggling "Travel insurance with pre-existing health conditions". There are a number of companies that broker insurance. We book travel quite a bit out. I always purchase travel insurance within days of booking our trips. I make certain the coverage is adequate to not only cover medical care but can get me back home if necessary.

Thank you, Christine! Luckily we've found one company that will waive the pre-existing conditions issue -- although since my PH has been chronic for years, I don't seem to fall into that category. Thanks for your answer!!

When traveling with pulmonary hypertension (PH), it's crucial to ensure your travel insurance includes coverage for pre-existing conditions. Here are some tips:

1. Pre-Existing Condition Coverage: Look for policies that specifically cover pre-existing conditions like PH. This ensures you're protected if a PH-related issue arises during your trip.

2. Medical Evacuation: Ensure the policy includes medical evacuation, as this can be critical if specialized care is needed.

3. Provider Recommendations: While I can't recommend specific companies, search for insurers that specialize in chronic conditions or offer tailored plans for travelers with health concerns.

4. Timing: Purchase insurance as soon as possible to avoid missing deadlines for pre-existing condition waivers.

5. Policy Details: Read the fine print to confirm PH-related care is covered and check for exclusions.

For more personalized advice, consult a travel insurance broker or your healthcare provider. Safe travels!
