I know we're all piling info and opinions on you and it must be overwhelming. Be sure to check EVERYthing out with your PH doctor. For example, some PH patients cannot take Codeine and it can limit your partner's cardiac output. PH is one of those chronic illnesses that can be negatively impacted by an awful lot of factors. Best to check out every single RX and OTC medication and/or supplement with your new specialist. And absolutely NO cough medicine with a D (for Decongestant) in it's name.

All caffeine is bad, so make him soothing herbal teas instead of green or black tea. (That also means no coffee, cola or chocolate. I do cheat with a bit of chocolate once in a while)

Debra, I was tested for whooping cough, I had the bacteria for it and was treated. My cough isn't nearly as bad as before, but is still there. The cough syrup works gor me, however, I don't take it everyday and it's been a bit since I have used it. Each of us are different and should always touch base with our Dr.

Debra, I first had the in home oximeter test and my ins paid for nocturnal O2 after that. You are right though I believe for 24/7 O2 it needs to be in a lab.

Lacey,
It's my understanding insurance won't approve CPAP or oxygen without an in lab sleep study where they monitor apneas and oxygen levels, including need for oxygen administration.

Lacey: If your boyfriend's PH is attributed to his Sleep Apnea, he is Group 3, NOT Group 1. That is very important as the medications used to treat Group 1 conflict with how Group 3 patients should be treated. Here's a cut and paste.: Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Pulmonary Hypertension: An Intricate Relationship. Historically, OSA was categorized under Group 3 PH, signifying a direct relationship between these two conditions. This relationship is complex, with OSA contributing to the development and progression of PH.

And I don't know which medications he is on as of now, but some can produce a severe cough. I had to stop Tadalafil due to a 24/7 debilitating cough.

BUT PLEASE, have your PH specialist confirm what group he is actually in so as not to improperly treat him.
