I don't think sleep apnea, or the machine, cause PAH or COPD. I think sleep apnea is an early symptom. I've had it for approx. 12 years, using my machine every night without fail. I NEED it to get a good night's sleep.
I was diagnosed with COPD in 2/2023 and PAH in 9/2023. They've add oxygen to my CPAP machine and now I'm on oxygen 24/7. I hate the oxygen hose getting in my way all the time, but I am grateful for it as it has helped me considerably.

I have used a CPap since 2008. When I had open heart surgery they discovered that my oxygen dropped very low when i laid down. I went for asleep study and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I was recently diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure which they said brought on Pulmonary Hypertension. My CPap really helps with breathing at night. Anyone who thinks they have a problem should go for a sleep study to find out. So far I do not use oxygen at all.

I never used a cpap until my ph. I think I should of had it before I got ph because I had sleep apnea and didn’t know it.

Yes, used a CPAP for 5 years before my machine was recalled. Got a new machine in Feb 2023. Since I was only 1 point over the score for sleep apnea, My brain said I didn’t need it. At Christmas, I had a bad fall and broke four ribs. Also, my heart was out of rhythm and my breathing was compromised. All of the doctors kept asking me if I was using my CPAP. They tried to put me on one in the hospital, but the mask didn’t fit, I refuse to wear it there. All that one did was leak air and didn’t like the constant “farting.” 😂. The first day in rehab, my kids had the new CPAP for me. So now I have PH and it probably didn’t help that. I hadn’t been using the CPAP. Now I am a big advocate for sleep apnea testing for anyone that snores or is heavy. I am told that PH at my age 82 is different than someone younger having it. I am going to the respiratory doctor on the 21st and I’m anxious to hear what he has to say. I do use oxygen at night with the CPAP. I’m thinking that may be I should take another sleep study to see if I really need the oxygen. I hope this finds anyone reading this doing well. ❤️👍

Of all the things related to PH the number one thing is sleep apnea. My heart doctor explained it last week. It didn’t help when I stopped it! 😥👍
