This occurs because the right side of the heart has to work harder to pump blood through the narrowed or stiffened pulmonary arteries, leading to its eventual failure. Additionally, left-sided heart disease, such as left ventricular failure, can cause pulmonary hypertension by creating a backup of blood and increased pressure in the pulmonary arteries.
