My PH Was Confirmed With A Right Heart Catheterization, But My Doctor, A Cardiologist Did Not Do A 6-minute Walk Test.

A myPHteam Member asked a question 💭
Pensacola, FL

He said I don’t need to make any dietary or other changes and to follow up with my pulmonologist. I sometimes have difficulty breathing even with. 2-3 liters of O2 and it. Takes me longer to recover at rest. Sometimes I vomit. I am 76 years old and have previously been diagnosed with COPD, but my PH doctor does not think is accurate. My PH diagnosis is new.

I see my pulmonologist next week, and, aside from the obvious, I don’t know what I need to ask him.

Now, I am not a medical professional, and I don't know what your PH numbers are. But I think you need to be in the care of an actual PH Specialist. 6 minute walks are standard for PH patients and are done at regular intervals. In fact, the insurance company for any eventual specialty medications may require the results from those 6 minute tests in order for you to qualify or get approved. Those tests are also a non-invasive way for your specialist to track your progress. Dietary restrictions are also standard. Aside from the low sodium aspect, there are fluid intake restrictions (mine is 2 liters/day) and you should not have any caffeine (tea, coffee, chocolate, or cola)

Reduced sodium is a very important dietary change. It has made a world of difference. I have never had a 6 minute test. Maybe it's not needed for your diagnosis. Sorry you have all these health problems.

Ask whatever comes to your mind. Ask about symptoms, ask about medicines, ask about how to continue your daily life in light of this diagnosis.
Good luck to you.
