Yes, having both a pulmonologist and a cardiologist on your care team is important for managing PAH, especially with chronic right-sided heart failure and AV malformation with right-to-left shunting. Here’s why:

- Cardiologists: They specialize in the cardiovascular system and can run tests like echocardiograms to monitor heart health. They can recommend treatments such as medications, oxygen, and surgery.
- Pulmonologists: They focus on the respiratory system and can diagnose and manage PAH, working closely with your cardiologist to address your condition from multiple angles.

Having both specialists ensures comprehensive care for your heart and lungs, which is crucial for managing PAH effectively.

I have both a regular cardiologist and a PH specialist who is a pulmonologist. I also have a general pulmonologist. All 3 communicate with each other and are NOT redundant.

I have both a pulmonologist that specializes in PH care and a cardiologist. My cardiologist defers to my pulmonologist for all my PAH care since this is her area of expertise. Personally, I believe you should have both on your team.

Well.. since I am not sure but the more eyes and opinions the more information it gives you to make decisions about your care and questions to ask to help you get that information the biggest thing I find is want them as a team I want them all working together with me not as separate individuals. When they did the cath in August I spent 6 days having fluid pulled off me followed up with cardiologist, cardiovascular &thorasic, surgeon went from there to the heart and lung transplant team ..I am prepping to enter a study for experimental treatment and trying to get palliative care started .
