For Those Of Us Who Are On Low Or No Salt, Has Anyone Discovered Anything That Substitutes For It?
I know there is some kind of salt replacement in the spice aisle at the store. I don't know anything about it, never tried it, however, my immediate belief is that it is propably really fake. Perhaps devised through some chemical. For that reason I have never researche it, but maybe I should think about doing that.
Thanks in advance for any information you might share.
Hi Kelly 83! I was told by a nutritionist once that "Salt is salt". Sea salt is just as much.salt. Stick with the Mrs. DASHES product or Trader Joes has one also no salt product, as well as Penzkies (sp). I am with you- garlic is the best!
Blessings!!
There are a number of salt free spice blends that can add a zip to your food. Another hack is lemon juice on vegetables. You can also experiment with a combination of spices to concoct your own mixes or look for salt free blend recipes on sites like Pinterest.
I use this stuff. Yum yum.
Hi Jeanette, I have the same problem when eating out, I've found the food so salty sometimes that I've left half the meal. When I have reluctantly eaten salty restaurant dishes I have woken up several times in the night with a parched mouth!
I think once you've adjusted to no/low salt food you become even more aware of the issue.
When obliged by circumstances to eat in such places I ask can I have a low salt dish 'for health reasons'.
Old fashioned chefs, I've discovered, when working in Kitchens as a student, will chuck handfuls of the stuff in pots! I even had one turn to me when I asked why so much salt? he said they drink more and spend more at the bar!
The safety profile of potassium chloride is considerably better than sodium chloride.

Even so it is better to use it in moderation.
