Members discovered they could experience dehydration and fluid overload simultaneously, with many sharing personal stories of cramping, emergency room visits, and the challenging balance of managing diuretics while dealing with swelling and severe thirst. Several members offered practical strategies for managing diuretics, including timing Lasix doses early in the morning (around 5-6 AM) to allow freedom to leave the house by late morning, monitoring daily weight fluctuations, and recognizing that stopping diuretics temporarily can provide relief from debilitating side effects even if it means regaining fluid weight. A recurring theme was the frustration of navigating complex overlapping conditions like Sjogren's Syndrome, dysautonomia, and heart issues, alongside embarrassing symptoms like excessive sweating and bladder control challenges, all while advocating for themselves when doctors dismisses their concerns.

Hi M. Spicely2, Yes, I believe that I have heard of it. Sometimes, there is a very fine line between dehydration and fluid overload. You need to ask your doctor or nurse practitioner if you have been told this happens to you. They can explain the exact process. It also may depend on the condition of your heart and how your body, in particular, handles the fluid. Blessings!

I didn't know it until today, either! I have had a pretty difficult time with occasional extreme swelling for several years now, but I was told to limit my liquid intake despite absolutely craving water and having dry mouth to the extent of sounding raspy and dry, lips cracking despite repeated applications of lip balm, and low liquid output. I had a trip to the ER Tuesday evening, and was shocked that they had a difficult time locating a viable vein in which to place an IV. I was told that I was dehydrated! I was so very swollen in both body and legs that it was interfering with my breathing. I was treated, reminded of low salt diet and Fodmap Diet for SIBO treatment, told to see my PCP within three days for bloodwork follow-up, and sent home. I quickly enjoyed a very cold bottle of water! I suffer from Sjogren's Syndrome, which creates very dry mouth and eyes. Anyone else "enjoy"-Not! this disease?

I get cramping when dehydrated and it's happened while I've had edema.
