How Often Do People Have A Right Heart Cath
Had one in December which was when I was diagnosed with PAH doc says she wants another one toward the end of this year
I was diagnosed in 2022. Thus far I've had 3 RHCs. The first was diagnostic, the second was required to qualify for medication drug trial, and the third was because my symptoms had worsened. At the beginning of all this PAH craziness my doctor told me to expect to have a RHC done every 6 months to a year. I'm responding very well to medications. As long as I stay on this trajectory, I imagine I might not even require a RHC annually.
By the way, the device was developed by Abbot Labs and has been implanted in 34000 people globally so far!
The CardioMEMs is a teeny tiny device put inside one of your pulmonary arteries. It monitors your pressure readings. You download the data using a computerized plastic pillow and your care team gets the results daily. If your numbers jump in either direction you will get a call with instructions like to change a dosage or to go to the hospital. Insurance covers it completely if you have BOTH heart failure AND PH. If you only have PH then you might qualify under clinical trials currently going on. Since it is now used with cardiac patients I would think having a pacemaker would be fine but you should ask your provider
Hi Heather10. I need to ask, what is a cardamom implant. I have a pacemaker implanted. How much stuff can a person have implanted.
If you get a CardiMEMs implanted, then almost never. Some people get RHCs routinely every several months. Each person is different
