A myPHteam Member asked a question 💭
Victoria, KS

I had one done and doctor wants to do a second echocardiogram in 6 months. Is this normal procedure or after one echocardiogram do they than do right heart cath? I am debating wheter to stay with local doctors or go to ku med in kansas city.

@A myPHteam Member I'm fairly certain that whether or not to do a repeat echo or move on to a RHC is dependent on your medical history, risk factors, and actual echo numbers. Like @A myPHteam Member, I have a medical condition that puts me at an increased risk of developing PH. In fact, when I first started seeing my pulmonologist, I was told that in all likelihood I would develop some form of lung disease eventually.

@A myPHteam Member,I saw my regular doctor today and they are referring me to KU Med. I was there in 2019 for other issues and they really helped me.

I go to pulmonologist and cardiologist with experience on treating patients with PH. A second Echo is the first thing my cardiologist did.

It seems every one of us has just slightly different symptoms at any given time, and the same can be said for doctor recommendations. My cardiologist wants an echo done every 12 months, my pulmonologist would rather have it done every 6 months and the PAH specialist at the certified center wants me to have just about every test every 6 months. WHAT? I’ve had this PAH since 2016, according to all the test results, I’m not totally bad. There have been changes in lung function, but nothing catastrophic (yet). Maybe I’m a cynic, but sometimes I feel they are chasing insurance/medicare money.

Because of having Crest Syndrome, I was getting echos every year. When my pressure went up to 27. I was sent to a pulmonologist. I had several test before getting a right heart cath. It was 5 months before the cath.
