If you don't have a cardioMEMs monitoring device implanted, I think the average is about every 6 months. But I'm sure each person has their own special circumstances. '

A CardioMEMs device is a miniature monitor developed by Abbott Labs. It gets implanted into one of your pulmonary arteries. It measures your pressure readings 24/7. Each morning you download the data using a special computerized "pillow" that you lay on and the data gets sent to your care team. It not only sends info re PAH but also about the status of your heart failure.

If you have BOTH PAH and heart failure as I do, you automatically qualify to get the device implanted and covered by insurance. If you just have the PAH, that is still in clinical trials and coverage would depend on if you are accepted into the program or not.

I got mine on 12/20 and I love having it. I can get my numbers any time I ask for them and it will eliminate a lot of otherwise future RHCs.
