Cardiac catheterization can have some side effects and sensations during the procedure:

- Sensations: Chest fluttering, lightheadedness, pressure in veins, or a warm sensation from medications.
- Post-procedure: You may need to stay at the facility for a couple of hours for monitoring.
- Complications: Serious complications are rare, occurring in about 1.1% of cases in experienced centers. Higher risk for children under 2 years old or those with severe PAH.

Always inform your doctor if you experience any pain or discomfort during the procedure.

SharonMullings:

You were asking the side effects of Cardiac Catheterization. The only thing I can think of is possible soreness or discomfort at the site where the catheter is inserted for the procedure.
There are 3 sites that seem to be most commonly used, and they are the groin, the wrist and the neck. I have had several and they have always been in the neck. Very little discomfort and no recovery time. I did not need any type of sedation. Some people do. So it would be a decision between you and your Cardiologist. I was home a few hours later.
Treatments are dependent on what group your PH happens to fall under.....the underlying cause of your PH. As an example, if it was caused by Sleep Apnea, then at least part of your treatment would likely be a C-Pap machine. Depending on your oxygen levels or saturation you may be prescribed Supplemental oxygen.
There are so many different aspects to this disease that there is no one size fits all. We are all unique. I have PAH which is caused by an underlyi
ng autoimmune disease....Scleroderma. so my treatment is different than someone with Sleep Apnea or caused by heart disease. So, it is very complex. I have a chart that I will post if I can find it!
Hope this answers some of your questions.
