Is RHC Used Only When PAH Is Suspected From ECHO Results Or Is It Also Used For PH Diagnosis And Treatment?
Cathy70:
A Right Heart Catheterization is not a treatment for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. It is a diagnostic tool that is the gold standard in testing. It gives definitive results and accurate Pulmonary Artery Pressure. An Echocardiogram is also used for diagnosis but the Pulmonary Artery pressure may not be 100% accurate. It could either be lower or higher.

Thank you Jeannette. I didn’t phrase my question well. I am particularly interested in whether RHC would only be useful when PAH is suspected as opposed to PH? My understanding is I have class 2, group 3 hypoxia related PH based on ECHO and symptoms. However a possible future RHC was mentioned in my initial visit with the cardiologist. Any thoughts?
