Tight Chest

A myPHteam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else get the tight chest and then it lifts after awhile?..for awhile. I have very mild ph, and I just saw the Dr and my spirometry was good.

Hi, how are you.
Never try to lift anything from the ground. Don't carry anything above your head. Keep things at shoulder level and handle them. Don't hold your breath forcibly to push, pull, lift or hold anything. They cause strain on your heart muscles leading to chest tightness and pain. Have a great day.

Yes, I do. But it is without rhyme or reason. I can have this feeling which ranges from inconvenient to totally overwhelming without any warning. It can strike just as often as me sitting and reading or watching tv to when I am outside raking or just walking to the car to go shopping. Just one of those things, and it leaves as quickly as it comes. I was fitted with a monitor to be sure I was not having an A fib event, but they tell me it is not that at all. Who knows? Not me, or at least not yet.

The past several weeks my chest has felt tight, ached, and I'm becoming SOB with minimal exertion. I can't tell if it is PAH or asthma related. I contacted my PH specialist/pulmonologist's office yesterday and scheduled an appointment for next week. I'm not sick but I simply feel "off" and unwell if that makes sense.

When I exercise I have a tight chest, and now that I am doing pulmonary rehab and working a little harder I get chest pain over my right lung, the lung I had surgery on to remove a suspicious nodule in my upper right lobe, removed about 20% of that lobe, thank God it was not cancerous, but had to have 2nd surgery for a pneumothorax in that lung about 8 weeks later. So I know I have alot of scar tissue. But it is painful to take a deep breath at times, we think now it is due to the increase in my exercising. We are keeping an eye on it. And I just have Mild PH.
