@A myPHteam Member the best advice I can give you is to learn as much as you can about your condition so you can advocate for yourself and partner with your medical team. Control what you can: medication compliance, limiting salt/sodium intake, monitoring your weight daily, communicating changes with your doctor in a timely manner, exercising regularly, staying mentally stimulated, and being socially as active as possible. Learn to let go of what you can't control.

Hi Mark!

It is really hard to quantify life expectancy as we are all of different ages with different health issues and comorbidities. Also, the cause of PH is a determining factor. You'll find lots of statistics online, however you have to keep in mind that those statistics are based on old numbers. There are lots of advancements in detecting PH, often in the very early stages before severe damage has been done. Then you have to consider how well each individual responds to medications and/or can tolerate them. You must also consider how compliant the affected individual is and how diligent they are managing their condition.

I have PAH associated with an autoimmune disease. I was diagnosed in 2022 but have been symptomatic since 2013. Statistically speaking, the life expectancy for PAH is roughly 5 years. If I were a gallon of milk, I would have long ago expired! All of this disease sits on pins and needles. When we're doing well, we feel pretty positive we can move that number out a few years. When we're not doing as well as we'd like, we have to come to grips with the reality of the disease. It's and up and down process, much like a rollercoaster.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but none of us knows how long we have. Until then, focus on making the best of each day you're blessed with.

The life expectancy used to be 2-5 years without treatment, but with all the new treatments and medications being developed that is no longer the case. I was diagnosed with severe Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in 2012 and am still living a pretty normal life at 80. So, as Christine said we are all different and may all have associated illnesses/diseases that may need to be factored in. When I was diagnosed, my Cardiologist said to me right after he did my RHC "this could be life shortening". So far so good! So no one can tell you what your life expectancy will be. Live each day fully and do what your team of specialists asks you to do! 🤷‍♀️
