I Sometimes Get A Burning Sensation In My Chest And Lower Legs And Feet

A myPHteam Member asked a question 💭
Denver, CO

Tonight I had a tight chest and burning after eating. I have COPD and mild PH but I worry about the tightness and the burning which is not a symptom of COPD.

I use an ice pack to cool down. Anyone else having these feelings? I am on O2 24/7 and have been since 2006. The pulmo gave me lasik for water on the lungs which was discovered when I had an Echocardiogram. I am breathing a whole lot better and can actually see the veins in my feet again, but this whole new diagnosis has me worried.

Burning sensations in the chest and lower legs and feet can be concerning. Here are some points to consider based on the context provided:

Chest Pain and Pulmonary Hypertension (PH)
- Common Symptom: Chest pain, including burning sensations, is a common symptom of PH. It can range from mild discomfort to severe pain.
- When to Seek Help: If the chest pain is persistent and severe, it could indicate a more serious issue like a heart attack. Other heart attack symptoms include shortness of breath, pain in the arms or shoulders, and lightheadedness.

Lower Legs and Feet
- Neuropathy: Burning sensations in the lower legs and feet could be related to neuropathy. One myPHteam member mentioned that gabapentin helped manage their neuropathy symptoms.
- Swelling (Edema): Swelling in the legs and feet is also a symptom of PH and can cause discomfort. It may indicate fluid retention and disease progression.

Recommendations
- Consult Your Doctor: It's crucial to discuss these symptoms with your healthcare provider to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.
- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of when these sensations occur and any other accompanying symptoms to provide detailed information to your doctor.

If you experience severe or sudden symptoms, seek urgent medical attention.

Barbara 338, Ask your doctor about neuropathy. You may have to go to a neurologist for a diagnosis, but that is what I have and the burning in my feet and lower legs feels like a fire has been lit on the inside of my legs. If you have it, there are medicines that will help. I take Gabapentin and Ropinerole to control the burning. When I first started on the Gabapentin, I was groggy, but after a week, my body adjusted. I hope this helps.
