I am enrolled in the Assistance Fund,
TAFCares.Com. They help with my specialty medications.. Also try Jannsen Care Path, and Accredo. You may be able to get a grant. It is a blessing!
I would not be able to pay for all my specialty meds otherwise.

I hear you. I'm on Opsumit at a small cost of $12,000/month and Tyvaso for slightly more at $23,000/month. I'm thankful that I don't pay for them. Medicare pays some and social security extra help pays some and CVS specialty pays some. If you need help with a copay, Healthwell Foundation is helpful.

Hello, They are relatively new meds that took a lot of work (employee salaries, trials, etc. that are costly) to bring to the market. Several are cheaper as they are generic for the original drug. Like Opsumit is the original and Ambrisentan is the off brand. It sucks, huh.

@A myPHteam Member PAH drugs are much costlier for several reasons. There are only a few medications that have generics available. Depending on the pathway the medication is supposed to affect, many of the medications are newer, fully patented, and only produceable by drug manufacturer that developed the medication. Many of these medications have been years in the development and the process to very costly. PAH is still considered a rare medical condition. This means that in order to break even the drug manufacturer must charge a higher price. I am not justifying the cost. I agree the cost is much too high. But it is what it is. There are options:

1. Talk with your doctor about lower cost options. Ambrisentan is considerably less costly than Opsumit. Tadalafil is much less costly than Sildenafil (and only requires dosing 2x/day instead of 3). A good PH specialist usually has a dedicated staff person that works with specialty drugs and can assist you with financial assistance.
2. Depending on the drug, you may find cheaper options through GoodRx or on Mark Cuban's CostPlus Drug website.
3. Contact the drug manufacturer directly. They have co-pay assistance available for most insurance sources.
4. Apply for assistance through each and every health foundation out there. If they are waitlisting, get your name on the list.

@A myPHteam Member ambrisentan is the generic name for Letairis, macitentan is the generic name for Opsumit. While both medications impact the same treatment pathway, lowering endothelin, they are different medications. Opsumit is much costlier because there are no generic drugs.
