Lanoxin (Digoxin) for Pulmonary Hypertension

Overview
Lanoxin is a prescription drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat mild to moderate heart failure and atrial fibrillation in adults. Lanoxin may also be prescribed in cases of pulmonary hypertension. Lanoxin may be referred to by its drug name, digoxin.

Lanoxin is a digitalis drug. Digitalis drugs are believed to work by increasing the force with which the heart beats and controlling irregular heart rhythms.

How do I take it?
Lanoxin is generally taken once or twice a day.

Lanoxin comes in tablet form.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Lanoxin lists common side effects including headache, dizziness, weakness, depression, anxiety, skin rash, slowed heart rate, enlarged or tender breasts in men, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Rare but serious side effects listed for Lanoxin include toxicity and new or worsening arrhythmia.
